The City of West Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department recently completed a comprehensive update to the City’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan.  The Master Plan establishes priorities for improvements to our parks, recreation and open space system, as well as recreation programming over the next 10 years.  The Plan also incorporates changes to the natural and built environment that offer numerous opportunities for unique recreation amenities along riverfront bluffs, miles of levees, agricultural landscapes, and progressive urban developments that promote active living.  The Parks and Recreation Department oversees more than 38 parks, open space areas and public plazas, in addition to a 21,000 square foot Community Center and 38,000 square foot Recreation Center.

In 2018, concurrent with the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan Update effort, the City also updated its Bicycle, Pedestrian and Trails Master Plan. The two documents work together to help create safe, accessible access to recreation and active transportation opportunities, as well as safe routes to schools, shopping and employment.
